Over the past few years I have shared my favorite new sustainable swaps (see 2019 and 2020), but this year I wanted to share the sustainable bathroom swaps that get the most use. I go through my favorite hair care, skincare, body care, & oral care products. I want to make it clear that I have been building up my arsenal of sustainable swaps over the past 7+ years, so don’t read this post as a “shopping list” per se. Look at this more as a list of recommendations. Finished your bottle of shampoo and looking for a more sustainable option? I’ve got them right here for you.

Sustainable Swaps For Your Hair

- Spring & Vine Grapefruit And Rosemary Volumizing Shampoo Bar – This is by far the best shampoo bar I’ve ever tried. Even my parents love it! Available at Target, $10. Read my full review of it here.
- byHumankind Shampoo and Conditioner – If shampoo bars aren’t your thing, byHumankind has liquid shampoo and conditioner that comes in infinitely recyclable aluminum bottles. I use the lavender shampoo and eucalyptus conditioner. $24 each
- Lush Roots Hair Mask – Since swapping to more sustainable shampoo options I need a good hair mask every once in a while. This mask has lasted me a long time, is super quick and easy to use, and gives my very flat hair a good amount of volume. $23.95 for 7.9oz
- cocokind Raspberry Vinegar Toner – If you’ve ever done an apple cider vinegar hair rinse or if you’re looking for a way to clear out some product buildup on your scalp, you can use this skincare toner as a detox for your hair. I spray it on my scalp, work it in with my fingertips, and rinse with warm water. No need to use shampoo or conditioner after! $18
- Korres Comb – This comb is made from post-consumer recycled plastic and is made in Korres’ Full Circle factory in Greece. This was a limited run product but check out Korres here.
Sustainable Skincare Favorites

- Youth To The People Superfood Kale Cleanser – I’ve been using this cleanser for nearly two years now and it has done wonders for my skin. It smells great, isn’t harsh, and comes in a glass bottle. YTTP sells refills as well. $36 for 8oz
- Youth To The People Peptide + Cactus Oasis Serum – This serum feels so light on my skin and is very hydrating. It’s expensive but a little goes a long way.$54
- cocokind Watermelon Hemp Oil – I use this dry oil nearly every day – in the summer, in the winter, fresh out of the shower, at the end of the day (you get the point). It’s so lightweight and really locks moisture in. $15
- cocokind Chlorophyll Mask – This is a great gentle exfoliating mask (plus who doesn’t love a good green face mask??) – $20
- cocokind Reusable Facial Rounds – I use a reusable facial round every day whether it’s to take off makeup, soak my nose piercing in tea tree oil, or to apply toner. These ones from cocokind are great and last for up to 100 uses. $18 for a set of 14
- Plant Apothecary Firm Believer Eye Cream – This eye cream is total luxury. I’ve had trouble finding good eye creams and this one is my absolute favorite. It also smells so good! $70

Sustainable Bathroom Swaps: Oral Care

- Bite Toothpaste Bits – I’ve been using these for coming up on three years and I’m still a huge fan. They’re easy to travel with, don’t take up a ton of space, and having the option to refill them on a subscription every four months makes it easy. $48 for four month supply, get 10% off with code ACTEEVISM
- byHumankind Refillable Plastic-Free Floss – The refillable packaging is great and it’s the best plastic-free floss I’ve tried! $15
- Hey Humans Plastic-Free Fluoride Toothpaste – This toothpaste comes in aluminum packaging which can be cleaned and recycled in curbside recycling once you’ve used it all up. Available at Target, $3.99
- Bite Plastic-Free Whitening Gel – Whitening strips are so harsh on my teeth and super wasteful when you consider all of the single use packaging elements. This is the first plastic-free whitening product on the market! It’s easy to use and you see results fast. $24, get 10% off with code MEGAN10
- Swish Mouthwash – This mouthwash is alcohol free and comes in a recyclable aluminum bottle. I love to see more sustainable products available at places like Target! $5.99, available at Target.
